At first I was attracted to the Eastham beach at dusk by the abstract patterns of damp sand and shallow pools of water left by the extreme ebb tides. When there were clouds in the early evening sky, they created shadows and filtered the light playing on these patterns, forming beautiful images for me to photograph. To my surprise, when I reviewed the photographs, I became more fascinated by the tiny silhouettes of people on the horizon than by the sand and water. Also, the body gestures of the individuals and groups expressed more to me than the unseen faces could have.  Some of this body language suggested isolation; some of it, interconnection. I feel very happy bringing people back into my work after their many years’ absence.
