Making books has been an intermittent yet satisfying part of my
life as an artist. In making prints or taking photographs I’ve
enjoyed working in pairs and suites of related images. Books offer
this same opportunity in an even richer way. They are a form in
which you can sequence ideas and images and move back and forward
in space. While enjoying the physical act of holding the book, the
viewer also determines how quickly or slowly he or she moves through
the words and images. In this way books become a participatory experience
in a way that wall art cannot.
My subjects have been either nature inspired such as Luna Moth
and Walking in the Arboretum, or autobiographical like
Lila’s Room, People Tell Me Lila is Beautiful
and also Walking in the Arboretum. Some of the books are
one of a kind and others are made in limited editions.
